MiJoy Ride – Good Grief

At the age of 62, I’m gearing up for the ride of a lifetime. Departing from Nelson Bay, NSW, I’ll be embarking on an awe-inspiring motorcycle journey spanning 35 countries across Asia and Europe. What makes this journey truly remarkable is my mission to raise funds for the Yacaaba Centre, a crucial community support hub catering to the needs of the Nelson Bay community.

My personal connection to the Yacaaba Centre is profound. After experiencing the devastating loss of both my mum and dad within a short time of each other, I found myself in a state of grief and unable to cope. It was during this challenging time that I reached out to the Yacaaba Centre for support. Now, as I prepare to embark on this journey, I do so in memory of my beloved parents and for my new granddaughter, Isabella joy  aiming to demonstrate that age has no limit and that determination can conquer any challenge.

The route I’ll be taking is nothing short of epic, spanning diverse landscapes and cultures. From the bustling streets in China to the historic cities of Europe, my journey promises to be an unforgettable adventure.

“We are incredibly grateful for Vicki’s dedication and commitment to supporting the Yacaaba Centre,” says Louise Simpson, Manager of the Yacaaba Centre. “Her journey will not only raise funds but also spark important conversations about grief and mental health awareness. We wish her safe travels and look forward to following her journey every step of the way.”

My journey will be documented through social media channels, allowing supporters to track my progress and contribute to the cause. Donations can be made directly through my channels or the Yacaaba Centre website, with all proceeds going towards providing essential mental health services.

Yacaaba Centre Information and Counselling Service

The Yacaaba Centre Information and Counselling Service is a charity located in Nelson Bay, NSW, offering vital services and support to the community of Port Stephens.

It delivers a wide range of early intervention support conducted within a counselling approach to assist vulnerable people who are escaping domestic violence, at imminent risk of homelessness, who are homeless or who are in other crises.

Services provided include professional counselling, housing support, rent support, welfare assistance,·emergency relief funds and support with crisis intervention.

Although the Yacaaba Centre receives some funding from the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), it only covers the bare bones of their service.  To be able to provide the range of services and practical support to their clients, they depend on donations they receive from the community.

I am raising funds for Yacaaba Centre Information and Counselling Service because I am inspired by their work. The difference they have made to so many people is just extraordinary and I know there are so many others that would benefit from their work.
